Monday's Harvest 08/20/12

Fall has arrived in the mountains with night time lows in the 40's to low 50's.  Highs during the day mid 70's.  However the garden is starting to produce a little but with these low temperatures it is going to be a slow go.

The cucumbers are coming into their own now with picking almost every other day.  Total 8lbs. 9 oz.

2 more oz. of celery.

The beets are a bit disappointing.  I also pulled before I should have.  These would have continued to grow I am sure.  3lbs 7 oz.

The peppers continue to grow at the plots but no new blossoms.  3 lbs 8 oz.

Basil is starting to wind down.  Total 2 lbs 10 oz.

Still picking from the patio tomatoes 4 lbs 9 oz and will pick more today.

Dug more volunteer potatoes 9 lbs 14 oz.

Zucchini a big disappointment.  My one and only.  11 oz.  I know anyone can grow zucchini.  LOL

Broccoli is so-so.  9 oz.

Volunteer dill.  I never plant it.  I have one garden that reseeds every year.

I think the mung beans are going to be a big disappointment.  They have set lots of beans but the plants appear to be dieing now and the beans are no where near ready to pick.

Don't forget to stop by our host Daphne's Dandelions   and see what others around the globe are harvesting.

  1. I have the same dill. This year the dill that I planted didn't grow. but the volunteer dill took up the slack. And that is a lot of cukes. I get a lot, but they are all pickling cukes so I can preserve them when I get too many to eat fresh.

  2. My pickling cukes didn't germinate at all this year. Just planted the same seed at the plots a week ago and they are up but am really stretching it to think I might get some. These slicers make great dill spears and bread and butter pickles.

  4. Beautiful harvest. The only sign we have of fall is that the sky is turning that blue that only happens in fall. My son noticed it Saturday. Maybe soon we will have cooler temperatures. :)

  5. Your cucumbers look good. Mine are dying now. I had a volunteer dill too but it didn't survive. Lots of potatoes!

  6. Isn't wonderful when the volunteers surprise you with such a bountiful harvest. Night time in the 40's and 50's is going to slow things down quite a bit. We are not that low yet.

  8. I won't laugh because I had a bad zucchini year last year and know that it is indeed possible to have them pout and not produce. This year I am swimming in them though. Would love to share but sadly they don't teleport very well. ;D

Your peppers, tomatoes, basil, volunteer potatoes, and those bountiful cucumbers are gorgeous. How can you possibly be in fall already when your summer just arrived (or so it feels like)?!

  9. Wow fall already? We just had 104 a few days ago! Probably won't see temps like yours until end of Oct or maybe even mid Nov! Beautiful beautiful harvest!
