Do you make lists then loose them

I am a list person but half the time I can't find the list after I make it.  I hate sticky notes they are too messy.  I found a new solution quite some time ago.  Of course to have to not mind things stuck to the front of your refrigerator.

I have a bad habit of putting leftovers in the refrig and forgetting about them.  All of a sudden the refrig looks like an experimental lab growing all sorts of cultures and wasting good food.  I also try to keep a running grocery list of what I am running short on but can wait until I see it on sale.  And then there is the to do list which I don't have up right now as it ran out of paper which might tell you a little bit about how long my to do list is.  For that I use a small pad the size of the one with refrig contents but it has a sprial top so I can flip through the pages.

I have a coil of magnet tape that has a peal off back.  Stick it to the back of a pad or small notebook and you have an instant refrigerator magnet and your notes don't get lost.

  1. I make lists too. I hang my "to do" canning and cooking list on the pot rack and try to keep a running shopping list. I really need to start putting inventory lists on the freezers. That would definitely help a lot.

  2. My inventories of the freezers are done. Just need to sit down and type them into Excel where I can alter them as I use and add to the freezers. Need to do the pantry but that is much more detailed. I do know that all my shelves are full and I have 7 cases of fresh canned vegetables sitting on the floor waiting for a home somewhere.

  3. After losing track of what was in the freezer I made a list that hangs on a clipboard out there. I cross things off as I take them out to use.

I keep a running grocery list on the microwave and here at my desk besides the calendar I do a weekly to do list.

I am a list maker from way back. Dan had me take a Covey course long ago that helped with prioritizing tasks when I was teaching. I don't know how anyone operates without a list!

    Great post!

  4. Thanks Marcia. I live from my freezers and pantries so I need to know what I have and what I need. Other than absolute necessities I do not buy unless something is on sale and I mean sale not marked up and called on sale. I find Excel works great for keeping inventories. The printed list is kept on the freezers to add and subtract then about every 2 weeks the computer version is updated and a new inventory printed. I like the little pads on the refrig then I can leave the slips attached and not loose them.

  5. Smart idea to post the leftovers that are in the fridge! I always seem to forget them until too late.

  6. I might try posting a a list of leftovers in the fridge--and maybe snacks, too. The kids always stand there with the door open saying they can't find anything to eat. Drives me crazy.

  7. Oh do I remember those days of the open refrigerator door and unable to see anything in there. Now it is the grandkids and great grandkids that are standing at my refrigerator with the door open.

  8. I am a self confessed list-o-holic. I have a list for EVERYTHING! HA! BUT...If I don't lose the list itself I forget to bring it when I go to the place I will need it. THen I find it when I no longer need it. :-(

  9. My family gives me a hard time when it comes to Thanksgiving or any big family dinner as I have a list on the refrig with the time I need to start cooking everything and how long it will take so I don't forget anything and to have everything ready at the same time.
