I am still harvesting from the Aero Garden. This week I got 2 7/8 oz. of basil which I dried and a little parsley that went into my bean and bacon soup to finish it off. The basil just won't stop and I have run out of things to do with it however, I guess the next batch will go into a compound butter.
Be sure to visit our host of Harvest Monday
and see what others are harvesting this past week.
I guess I need to learn how to grow herbs indoors like you. That is a great little harvest. I think we can all forgive you for not joining the harvest report, I think it's just the busyness of this time of year. I even missed a couple of reports in the last few weeks.
ReplyDeleteWell since my ground it white and don't see many days about freezing, gardening is a little difficult right now.
ReplyDeleteI love my little Aero Garden. I have a second one sitting at the post office waiting for me to pick up today. I am going to experiment with starting some of my seedling for the garden this spring. I know fools and their money soon part and they are expensive. Just received some information on building your own hydroponic systems with PVC that I would really like to try. If my DH was alive I would have one in no time but for me things take a little longer to build as I have to learn to use some of the power tools before I start projects.
That's a lot of basil! Do you make pesto?
ReplyDeleteI haven't made pesto in years but have been thinking about it. Not sure DB would eat it as was thinking about making pasta with pesto.
ReplyDeleteI am amazed at your aero garden harvest. Did not forget my promise to post about growing bean sprouts. Bought the mung beans from the health food store some days ago must find time and get my act together.
ReplyDeleteThat is some beautiful looking basil and it is amazing how much production your aero garden provides!
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed at your aero garden as well, do you use synthetic plugs or you use potting mix?
ReplyDeleteOh...wow...what I wouldn't do for some fresh basil right now! Amazing!
ReplyDeleteI am running behind on time, too. It's hard to get everything done! Your basil looks beautiful, and a compound butter sounds so scrumptious! Oh, I can just imagine it now on some fresh baked bread! Yum!
ReplyDeleteNorma, I am glad you are going to post about growing mung beans. I had to adjust the light up an inch yesterday on the basil. That stuff just won't quit growing. For some reason I can't get lettuce going in it. Have tried twice with no luck.
ReplyDeleteLaura, yes the basil does well.
Mac, the standard garden I have uses a sponge to start the seed in. I received some new seed with my new garden that arrived yesterday and it is in a soil plug. I also have a tray that goes in that is made of styrofoam and that takes a soil plug. That is made to start seedling for the garden and transplant so not sure if they are now switching to all plugs or what as the baskets that hold them are also different from my old one. You can make your own sponge plugs very easily. I am trying to figure out how to make the soil ones now.
Bee girl, I have more basil than I can use right now.
HG, the compound butter that I make is basil, garlic and grated Parmesan and romano cheese. I use it on shrimp made like scampi and served over rice.
Looks really good!
