Harvest Monday 8/8/11

Good morning.  I have been MIA as far as blogging is concerned.  However the garden is starting to give a little bit now.
I picked a total of 6 broccoli and 2 zucchini this past week.  Broccoli except for one meal is neatly tucked away in the freezer for next winter.

4 of the heads of broccoli and one of the zucchini  Total weight on the broccoli was 3lbs 9 oz.
Also picked 3lbs 10 oz. of scallions at the community plot which went to the local food pantry.

Also picked basil and here are the frozen basil cubes that will be like using fresh come winter

  2. Allison I have 12 plants in so that is only half of them. The rest will be ready I am sure this week then the side shoots will start. Don't get as many all at once but still freeze as they come.

  3. That's some really nice broccoli you have there! It's tuff to blog and take care of everything else.

Glad to see that the garden is doing well!

  4. Thanks Robin. I understand you will be meeting Marcia shortly. How nice. I haven't really had a chance to even check out other's harvests. My satellite has been so bad it took me over an hour to just upload the pictures for today. Need more hours in a day I guess.

  5. Gorgeous broccoli! I never did get any large heads, but what I did get was good. How are you freezing yours? It looks like they're in big ice cubes.

  6. That broccoli is perfect. And the zucchini is at its sweetest that size. My zucchini is headed to the compost bin tomorrow. It's passed producing.

  7. Granny now I understand your question. Those cubes are basil. Guess I should reread what I type. My broccoli I freeze on cookie sheets than bag. The basil I chop and put a tablespoon in each ice cube and add water. It freezes and stays real green. Then I also bag that.

  8. LOL! I was wondering why you would freeze broccoli in little cubes!

  9. You know some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed and I am so busy that is the way I feel right now overwhelmed so not responsible for what I type.

  10. I freeze my basil as well. Though not in cube form. And your broccoli looks delicious.
