Working on the greenhouses

Finally got 2 greenhouses up yesterday. It was a sunny but cold and windy day. They both wanted to pull a Mary Poppins and fly off the deck but this morning I see I got them anchored well enough as the withstood the howling winds last night.

Doesn't everyone put greenhouses together in their living room.

  1. That first greenhouse looks like an ice cube. Are these brand new or ones you've used before?

  2. Sputnick or the ice cube is my first greenhouse. It is 7x7 and pops up real easy if you are tall enough which I am not. I think this will be either my 5th or 6th year with it. The other is new. I purchased it last fall. It is 6x8 and I have another one that will be my second year and that is 6x6 but won't put that up for a while.

  3. It is funny that you put them together inside.:) Having them on the deck must be very convenient.
Question: How do you heat them?

  4. Jean I use ceramic heaters. One is a 1300W and one is a 1500W. I thought I was having a problem so have ordered an new heater that will be here today and I don't really need it now but it is one of the oil filled. Looks like a radiator. Each greenhouse cost about a $1 a day if I only have to run at night. We will see next month when the bill comes in. As long as they are 40 degrees at night that is fine.

  5. very impressive! did you put them up by yourself? where did you buy them? how much did you pay? I am considering growing tomatoes during winter, here the temperatures do no go under 32f, or 0 celcious :)

  6. Andrea the spunick looking one is a Flowerhouse and I think it is the Bloomhouse. I ordered that on line.Right now at greenhousemegastore.com it is $188. If I was more than 5' tall I could put it up by myself. You have to reach into the center and pull until it pops up and I can't reach. If push come to shove and had no help I would figure out a way. The 6X8 is a Julianna and I purchased it at Lowes. I think it is $199. I put the framing together but did have my son help put the covering over it. I have another Flowerhouse that is 6x6 that isn't up yet and I put that up by myself.
