I guess I have MIA for couple of weeks blogging. It just seems this time of year is so busy and the weather has been so great there hasn't been a lot of time for the computer.
I did get 2 greenhouse up a week ago and everything moved in including the heaters. So much for nice weather. We are to be down in the teens this coming week and very little sun for 10 days. I started the last of my seed this week all of the brassica. Everything else will be direct planted.
I bought some onion sets since I am not real happy with my onion plants so far and was able to get them planted in the plot at the Community Garden.
Have all the lumber to build a 4x12 raised asparagus bed and 50 roots are on order. Also lumber to build another 4x8 raised bed. Now to figure how the top soil for these beds is going to fit into the gardening budget.
I do have my first harvest of 2012 however. I was out working what was my potato box last year getting it ready for the 40 strawberry plants that are sitting in the shop waiting to be planted. (bought a little premature but the late spring weather we had made me do it) and what did I discover but this. Maybe the best potato that came out of that box.
Don't forget to visit our host, Daphne's Dandelions , and see what others have harvested this week.
That is one beautiful potato! It will be good to eat, too! You have been very busy.
ReplyDeleteLove those surprise harvests! Sounds like you have lots of garden projects that are about to get underway this spring. New beds are always fun - like a new canvas for an artist to work with. :D
ReplyDeleteSure wish I had a greenhouse. Yep, the unseasonable warm weather made me do things I knew I should not have and this week the nighttime temp is going to be quite low.
ReplyDeleteI always seem to find a few potatoes later on; sometimes tho I miss them and they grow some more potatoes, which is always great.
ReplyDeleteI love surprise harvests. I do hate the weather swings though. Last week 84F. Tonight we have predicted anywhere from 17F-24F depending on the weatherman you pick. Brrrr. I've covered my onions. I don't always do this but if it gets in the teens they will suffer a lot.
ReplyDeleteThat is a nice potato surprise. I hope you enjoyed it. The cold temperatures seem so much colder after the hot spell we had last week.
ReplyDeleteIts always so much fun to get a little surprise when cleaning out a garden bed!
ReplyDeleteYou have been very busy in your garden, what a good looking potato was he steamed, mashed, roasted or waiting the pot...........
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful potato? Will you eat it or plant it?
ReplyDeleteHAHA! Great find! ANy harvest if it's been in the teens especially is a GREAT harvest.
ReplyDeleteGreat potato!! :)

First I must apologize that I haven't been keeping up with the comments this week. It seems this time of year there is just too much to do and not enough time.
ReplyDeleteFirst off thanks to everyone who visited and comments. The potato ended up as potato chips.
It is great having greenhouses but with this crazy weather they have been a big challenge this week. Went to 14 degrees one night. Brought all the seedlings back in the house and put 2 heaters in the other greenhouse to be sure my big geraniums didn't die. They can stand some freezing temperatures. Everything is now in one greenhouse so a little crowded for working but will have to do for a few more days.
The new beds are already spoken for. One will be for my cannelloni beans and the big one will be an asparagus bed.
