Don't laugh but this was the best I could do this week.
My one horseradish root but I got 1/2 pint of ground horseradish. That will last me about a day.
Don't forget to visit Daphne's Dandelions and see what others have growing in their garden.
Barbie yes there was steak and some shrimp cocktail with a really good cocktail sauce made with a little of the horseradish.
Marcia you can plant horseradish anytime. I will throw all of the tops peels and what ever is left into the garden and till it in. It will start to grow this summer. I prefer to dig it in the spring when it first shows signs of growth but others dig it in the fall. I will have it growing at random all over the garden as I just keep tilling it under each year. I don't like the roots any bigger than what is in the photo. In fact the little long ones that are the size of your little finger are the best.
I am laughing but only that it won't last the day. I love horseradish too, but I've never grown it. I've always been afraid of never getting it out again. Someday I'm sure I'll try it though.
Daphne you are right once you get horseradish established it is there for life. I wouldn't recommend it in your raised beds. You need to find a dedicated spot for it in the ground somewhere. However if you get tire of it and turn the area where it has been growing into lawn and mow it enough it eventually dies out.
Very Cool! Looks like a success to me :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you were going to enjoy that wiht a good steak! Looks like yummy food to me, too!
ReplyDeleteWhen do you plant that to harvest it? Is it one of those fall plantings that overwinters?
ReplyDeleteAllison thanks
